01 / THE STARTING POINT

Understanding the
starting point.

SEO work began on August 20, 2026 on an existing React-based safety training website. The catalogue was substantial, but course-specific content and search targeting needed improvement, service landing pages had not yet been published, and technical indexing needed attention. No reliable pre-project Google Search Console baseline is available.

INITIAL SEARCH VISIBILITY

Semrush reported zero estimated organic traffic and organic keywords on August 21; this is not equivalent to zero GSC traffic.

Initial challenges

  1. 01
Limited measurable organic visibility in initial Semrush reporting
  2. 02
Semrush position tracking configured for Romania rather than the Canadian market
  3. 03
Generic or insufficiently differentiated content across course pages
  4. 04
Incomplete indexing and inconsistent canonical selection
  5. 05
Public service offerings lacked dedicated landing pages before the project
  6. 06
React-rendered metadata not included in initial static HTML

What was already working

  • Existing online safety training platform and course catalogue
  • Established business and service offerings
  • React, MongoDB and reusable course architecture suitable for scalable updates
  • Initial Semrush Site Health of 95% with zero errors

IMPROVEMENTS
Planning

Plan static-site-compatible pre-rendering

Reviewed Render build settings and catch-all rewrite behavior for generating course-specific HTML at build time without migrating frontend hosting.

Implementation details

Pages affected

  • /course/:courseName/:id

Observed outcome

Proposed only; not implemented.

Technical SEO

Test server-generated course metadata

Built and locally tested an Express route that returned unique course title, description and canonical in initial HTML. Confirmed the live frontend uses a separate Render Static Site, so the Express HTML route does not change live frontend responses.

Implementation details

Pages affected

  • /course/:courseName/:id

Observed outcome

Local proof of concept worked; static-site pre-rendering not deployed.

Content

Optimize more than 70 course records

Developed differentiated course titles, descriptions, audience information, outcomes, legislation and practical-training caveats. Kept multilingual and industry-specific course intent distinct.

Implementation details

Pages affected

  • /training

Observed outcome

Course-specific content expanded; indexing outcomes remain under review.

Development

Integrate course-specific content into React templates

Updated the public course template to render course overview, intended audience, outcomes, legislation, duration, FAQs, related courses and applicable practical training details.

Implementation details

Pages affected

  • /course/:courseName/:id
Technical SEO

Implement dynamic Course structured data

Added Course JSON-LD generated from course records in the React course template. Other schema types were considered but are not confirmed as implemented.

Implementation details

Pages affected

  • /course/:courseName/:id
Content

Expand the course content data model

Added or connected fields for additional descriptions, duration, target audiences, learning outcomes, custom documentation availability, SEO title and SEO description; reused legislation, language, tags and practical-training fields.

Implementation details

Pages affected

  • /training

Observed outcome

Scalable unique course content structure established.

Technical SEO

Resolve initial site-health warnings

Addressed issues from the initial technical review; Semrush Site Health increased from 95% to 97%.

Implementation details

Observed outcome

Semrush Site Health reached 97% on August 24.

Research

Canadian keyword research and search-intent mapping

Researched safety training, WHMIS, TDG, equipment training, safety supplies and service keywords. Mapped broad training searches to catalogue pages, specific searches to courses, and purchase intent to products.

Technical SEO

Initial SEO audit and Semrush benchmark

Reviewed technical search health and visibility. Semrush reported 95% Site Health, zero errors and 75 warnings; Authority Score 7, 110 referring domains and 198 backlinks. Estimated organic traffic and keywords were both reported as zero.

Implementation details

Observed outcome

Baseline audit recorded; not a zero-click Google Search Console baseline.

Analytics

Identify incorrect position-tracking market

Found an existing Semrush campaign targeting Romania/Romanian results and tracking “yoda service”, which was not a useful Canadian workplace-safety benchmark.

Implementation details

Observed outcome

Unreliable position-tracking baseline identified.

Research

Review AI search visibility

Recorded Semrush AI visibility score 14, one ChatGPT mention and zero cited pages as an additional historical benchmark.

Technical SEO

Dynamic course XML sitemap

Implemented a database-driven sitemap that includes active course records and public service pages, reducing manual URL maintenance for a catalogue of more than 70 courses. Date is approximate to late August.

Implementation details

Pages affected

  • /sitemap.xml

Observed outcome

Dynamic sitemap was available and submitted in Search Console.

Technical SEO

Separate public SEO pages from application workflows

Reviewed indexing rules for login, accounts, dashboards, checkout and other functional pages, with public courses and services prioritized for search. Date is approximate to late August.

Development

Design and develop four new service pages

Researched Canadian service search intent, planned layouts, wrote content, designed and built React pages for Company Training & Tracking, Digital Safety Forms, Safety Manuals and Safety Audits. Work began after August 20; exact publication dates not recorded.

Implementation details

Pages affected

  • /company-training
  • /digital-safety-forms
  • /safety-manuals
  • /safety-audits

Observed outcome

Four new service pages developed and published as part of the project.

Technical SEO

Improve course internal links and route consistency

Replaced click-handler-only course catalogue navigation with crawlable React Router links; standardized slug generation and corrected links pointing to /contact instead of /contact-us. Exact completion dates vary within late September.

Implementation details

Pages affected

  • /training
  • /contact-us
Technical SEO

Investigate course canonical selection

Reviewed Google-selected canonicals that incorrectly grouped unrelated courses, compared React Helmet output with initial HTML, and standardized preferred www URLs.

Implementation details

Pages affected

  • /course/:courseName/:id

Observed outcome

Identified a mismatch between browser-rendered metadata and static initial HTML.

Static-site rendering improvements identified

Confirmed that course-specific metadata was still absent from the initial HTML served by the live static frontend. Build-time pre-rendering was identified as a possible next step while retaining the existing Render hosting architecture. This work had not yet been implemented.

Server-generated metadata tested locally

Tested an Express-based approach for returning unique course titles, descriptions and canonical URLs in initial HTML. The local test worked, but the live frontend remained on a separate Render Static Site, meaning the Express route was not serving production course pages.

CURRENT ASSESSMENT

The story so far

Since beginning SEO work on August 20, 2026, Yoda Safety Services has established a stronger foundation for organic search. The project has included Canadian keyword research, technical SEO improvements, the design and development of four dedicated service pages, and a scalable content system for more than 70 online safety courses. Semrush Site Health improved from 95% to 97% during the initial technical work. Google Search Console has recorded organic search impressions and clicks across branded, training and service-related searches, including early visibility for the new Digital Safety Forms page. While the website now has more targeted content and improved internal linking, indexing remains a significant area of ongoing work. In particular, the React application's static hosting architecture means that course-specific metadata is not consistently present in the initial HTML returned to search engines. The project remains ongoing, with future work focused on improving indexing, monitoring individual landing pages and building on the SEO infrastructure already established.

ONGOING SEO CASE STUDYVRB / SEO
KEY INSIGHTS

Key takeaways

The most meaningful lessons and observations from the project so far.

  1. 01

The project expanded beyond optimizing existing pages. Four dedicated service pages were researched, designed, written and developed to support Yoda Safety Services' broader offerings and create additional organic search opportunities.

  2. 02

Canadian keyword research provided a clearer strategy for the website. Broad training searches, individual course searches, service-related searches and safety product searches were assigned different page targets based on search intent.

  3. 03

The course content model was expanded to support more specific information across a catalogue of more than 70 courses. Unique descriptions, audiences, learning outcomes, legislation and SEO metadata reduced reliance on generic course page content.

  4. 04

Semrush Site Health improved from 95% to 97% during the initial technical optimization work. This was an early technical improvement rather than a measure of organic traffic growth.

  5. 05

A dynamic XML sitemap made it possible to include active course records without manually maintaining dozens of URLs.

  6. 06

Internal linking improvements made course URLs easier for search engines to discover by replacing JavaScript-only navigation with crawlable links.

  7. 07

Google Search Console began recording visibility for relevant non-branded searches, including digital safety forms, workplace safety and regional training-related queries.

  8. 08

The homepage continued to generate most recorded organic clicks, while newer service pages began receiving impressions. This indicates early search exposure, not established traffic growth for every new page.

  9. 09

Indexing and canonical issues highlighted the importance of considering how search engines receive and render React application pages, not just how those pages appear in the browser.

  10. 10

The project established a foundation for continued SEO measurement and improvement, but longer-term rankings, traffic and conversions still need to be evaluated.

FUTURE IMPROVEMENTS

What's next

Planned SEO improvements and opportunities to explore as the project develops.

  1. 01

Investigate build-time pre-rendering or another static-site-compatible rendering solution so individual course pages return unique titles, descriptions and canonical URLs in their initial HTML.

  2. 02

Validate canonical tags and rendered HTML for a representative selection of courses after any rendering changes are implemented.

  3. 03

Continue reviewing Google Search Console Page Indexing reports to identify which course and service URLs are indexed, excluded or waiting to be crawled.

  4. 04

Review the dynamic XML sitemap for valid URLs, consistent canonical hostnames, accurate last-modified dates and appropriate inclusion of public pages.

  5. 05

Monitor individual course pages for impressions, clicks, search queries and changes in indexing status.

  6. 06

Track the performance of Company Training & Tracking, Digital Safety Forms, Safety Manuals and Safety Audits separately to understand which services are gaining relevant organic visibility.

  7. 07

Review search queries with impressions but few clicks to identify opportunities for improving titles, descriptions and search intent alignment.

  8. 08

Continue evaluating internal links between training categories, individual courses, related courses and relevant service pages.

  9. 09

Review course structured data after rendering improvements to confirm that search engines can consistently access the intended JSON-LD.

  10. 10

Revisit the original Canadian keyword research and monitor rankings for priority training, product and service searches.

  11. 11

Compare future Google Search Console reporting periods using consistent date ranges and export settings.

  12. 12

Monitor longer-term organic traffic and, where tracking is available, meaningful actions such as enquiries and course purchases.

RECORDED OBSERVATIONS

What the data is showing

Dated observations based on the project's available search performance data.

01

Digital Safety Forms began appearing for relevant searches

The latest query export included searches such as 'digital safety forms', 'digital safety forms software' and 'paperless safety forms'. The landing-page export also showed impressions for the new Digital Safety Forms page. This represents early visibility for a service page developed during the project, although clicks and conversions have not yet been established for that page.

02

Homepage continued to account for most organic clicks

The latest page export attributed 27 clicks to the homepage. Other recorded clicks were spread across contact, resources, company information, company training and an individual WHMIS course. This suggests that the newer service and course pages were still at an early stage of organic search development.

03

React rendering introduced an additional technical SEO challenge

The course template generated metadata through React Helmet, but the initial HTML served by the live Render Static Site contained generic metadata. A locally tested Express response demonstrated that unique metadata could be generated server-side, although the production static frontend did not use that response. Static-site-compatible pre-rendering remained an identified next step.

04

Indexing remained a limitation for course visibility

Search Console indexing reports showed a substantial number of course URLs classified as crawled but not indexed, alongside duplicate canonical classifications. This indicated that publishing optimized course content alone was not enough to ensure that Google would index each page.

05

Early organic search activity became measurable

A historical Google Search Console snapshot showed 9 clicks, 441 impressions, a 2% click-through rate and an average position of 11.1. The site appeared for 25 recorded queries. These results established early visibility during implementation, although the original reporting-period boundaries were not retained.

06

Early technical health improvement

Semrush Site Health increased from 95% at the initial August 21 review to 97% on August 24. This provided an early measurable technical improvement, separate from organic search performance.

07

Search intent revealed opportunities beyond broad training keywords

Keyword research identified opportunities to target more specific searches rather than relying exclusively on broad, competitive terms. For example, historical Semrush research showed approximately 590 monthly searches for both 'TDG training' and 'transportation of dangerous goods training', but keyword difficulty scores of 35 and 14 respectively. This supported more intentional page-level keyword targeting.

i
CONTEXT & LIMITATIONS

Understanding the results

SEO results need context. These considerations help explain what the available data can and cannot tell us.

  • No reliable Google Search Console performance baseline exists for the period before SEO work began on August 20, 2026. Initial Semrush estimates of zero organic traffic and zero organic keywords are not equivalent to confirmed zero Google Search Console traffic.
  • The historical Google Search Console checkpoints were recorded from reporting screens without preserving every reporting-period start and end date. Their totals should not be treated as directly comparable daily measurements or independent reporting periods.
  • The latest Google Search Console exports do not reconcile perfectly. The daily chart records 32 clicks and 962 impressions from August 20 through October 24, while the page export contains a different impression total. Original exported data is retained without forcing the figures to match.
  • Search Console query exports do not necessarily include every search query because some data may be anonymized or omitted.
  • Although individual course pages were optimized, Google had not indexed the complete catalogue at the latest technical review. Search visibility for those pages may therefore be limited.
  • Google Search Console identified canonical and duplicate-content classifications affecting course pages. The investigation found that course-specific metadata was not included in the initial HTML served by the live static frontend.
  • An Express-based metadata solution was successfully tested locally but was not deployed as the production HTML response for course pages. Build-time pre-rendering remains a potential future improvement rather than completed work.
  • The exact publication dates of the four new service pages were not recorded, although all were created as part of the project after August 20, 2026.
  • Search impressions and clicks are early visibility indicators. The available data does not establish increases in enquiries, course purchases, qualified leads or revenue.
  • No verified Core Web Vitals performance measurements are available for the documented technical checkpoints.
  • The recorded keyword search volumes and difficulty scores represent historical Semrush research. They should not be presented as current search demand without a new review.
  • The website and SEO work are ongoing, so the findings reflect the available data through October 24, 2026 rather than final project results.
